USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN
CONTENT STRATEGY
copywriting
At GetSet, I work as the Director of User Experience & Content Strategy on a small product team with a visual designer and a product owner.
I’ve got my hands in many different areas of the business — framing problems, conducting user research, designing features, strategizing our content, copywriting — but my constant is a relentless pursuit of defining the problem and, once I’ve got it, holding on tight. I also work closely with my CEO and COO to develop marketing language and materials that tell a compelling story.
HOW I DO IT
I spend time on The Problem
When a student or a stakeholder brings me a feature to flesh out, I’ll have as many conversations as it takes to uncover what problem is trying to be solved by that feature. I challenge myself and my team to edit our pursuits down to those that allow us to validate as quickly as possible. No matter the size of the project, a perspective widening glance at our shared vision can be the difference between a useless pet project and a valuable feature.
i KEEP it AGILE: Minimum, valuable, validate-able
Having been closely mentored by an agile product owner for four years, I take that same lean approach to my own work. I’ll always consider how we can validate the essence of a feature or idea, rather than just testing out the mechanics or language — especially in my MVPs.
I PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS
I’m working closely alongside sales, marketing, operations, development, and product so that I can have a holistic viewpoint over all of the touchpoints that someone — buyers, administrators, instructors, students — might have with our company. This means that content and features are always doing double duty by addressing the needs of each department at once.
